Philadelphia Marathon
In 1954, The Philadelphia Marathon was started. It is an annual marathon sporting event hosted by the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The event takes place on the third Sunday of November each year. The running track is approved by the USA Track & Field of 26.2 miles.
This Sunday 22, Nov.2009 is the 16th Annual Philadelphia Marathon. Runners from all over the world participated every year and gathered at Philadelphia this weekend, making preparation for Sunday’s 16th annual Philadelphia marathon. Some the sponsors and runners are also welcomed by the Michael Nutter, the Mayor. According to the sponsors and runners opinion, “We have a flat course, it's a quick course; it's a scenic course. It really is a veritable running tour of the great city of Philadelphia."
Wile running the track of 26.2 , some places are overview, which including major landmarks of the city, Penn’s Landing, Love Park, the zoo, Independence Mall, Memorial Hall, and Boathouse Row. This year the city-wide race is bigger than it’s ever been, with the participating of nearly 20,000, running across over of various neighborhood and landmarks. The marathon main event of running begins at 5:30 am and ends at 2:00 pm. For the enthusiasm of the runner there is several cheer zones are located in nearly all over the distance of 26.2 miles. Thus, the course begins and ends at Philadelphia Museum of Art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Throughout the race runners will travel and enjoy the heart of beautiful places of the city.
