AIPMT is an annually conducted medical entrance exam for MBBS and BDS courses under 15% all India quota seats in Government medical/dental colleges of India, which are under the control of Govt. of India, DGHS excluding the Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Andhra Pradesh states. What makes AIPMT, one of the most important medical entrance exams is its number of MBBS seats. This exam selects more than 3000 students for MBBS course, from all across India. More than 6 lakh students apply for AIPMT entrance exam.
At present, CBSE is conducting AIPMT entrance exam on the first Sunday of May. It consists of 180 objective type questions from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Each right answer fetches 4 marks and one mark is reduced for wrong answers. The Question Paper of AIPMT 2016 shall be based on the syllabus as notified by the Medical council of India. Those aspirants who are preparing for state medical entrance exams could also appear for AIPMT, because of the standardization of 11th and 12th syllabus across the country.
Other than the 15% merit seats in All India Quota, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan and Meghalaya states use the merit list of AIPMT to select candidates for MBBS and BDS courses in their, which increased the role of AIPMT among the students of these states. Also, Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, Institute of Medical Science of Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, Hamdard University, New Delhi also selects the candidates for their MBBS and BDS programs from AIPMT merit list, making this particular exam one of most important medical entrance test in the country.
The minimum age limit for appearing AIPMT is 17 years old as on 31st December of the year of the exam and maximum age limit is 25 years. For SC/ST, OBC candidates’ maximum age limit is 30 years. The candidate should have passed 10th and +2 or equivalent exam with physics, chemistry, and biology background. The candidates should have 50 percent marks in PCB for general category and 40 percent for SC/ST and OBC category.
The application forms for the exam is available on the website from the mid of December to the first week of February, where you can register your name by following the instructions and paying the fees. Once registered, the admit cards will be uploaded to the website by the first week of April and exam will be conducted on the first Sunday of May. Results will be announced by the first week of June.
Out of the total seats, 15% is reserved for SC candidates while 8% is allotted to ST candidates and 27% is reserved for OBC groups.
Unlike the state medical entrance exams, AIPMT has comparably a large number of medical seats available, which could help in reducing the pressure on candidates. Also, AIPMT act like a single window, for your entry into Armed Forces medical college, Delhi University etc., so that you do not write individual tests for these institutes and state-run medical colleges.
